The Neighborhood Consortium

Organized by residents, for residents — building a stronger Sugar Hill through unity, vision, and action.

Our Purpose

The Sugar Hill Neighborhood Consortium is a community-based organization formed by residents of Sugar Hill and their allies to strengthen, preserve, and uplift one of Aiken's most historically significant African American neighborhoods.

For generations, the people of Sugar Hill have built institutions, raised families, and sustained a culture of resilience and mutual support. The Consortium exists to formalize and advance that work — creating a structured, inclusive organization that can advocate for the neighborhood's needs, attract investment, coordinate services, and ensure that Sugar Hill's history and future are in the hands of its people.

We believe that every neighborhood deserves leadership, voice, and resources. The Consortium provides a platform where longtime residents, new neighbors, young families, seniors, community leaders, and partners can come together to shape the direction of Sugar Hill — with respect for the past and ambition for the future.

How the Consortium Works

The Sugar Hill Neighborhood Consortium operates through regular community meetings, committee-led initiatives, and partnerships with local organizations. We welcome all residents of Sugar Hill and surrounding areas to participate. Membership is free, and every voice matters.

Community Meetings

We hold quarterly community meetings open to all residents. These meetings are opportunities to hear updates, discuss neighborhood priorities, and make decisions together. Additional special meetings may be called for urgent matters or important community events.

Committees

Our work is organized into committees focused on key areas: History & Heritage, Youth & Education, Infrastructure & Safety, Senior Resources, Events & Outreach, and Finance & Development. Residents are encouraged to join the committee that matches their interests and skills.

Partnerships

The Consortium works with the City of Aiken, Aiken County, local churches, schools, nonprofits, and businesses to bring resources and support to Sugar Hill. We believe in collaboration — building relationships that benefit the community while respecting its history and identity.
